Seems like gas prices will never get back to where we’d like them to be, and with this economy every penny counts. While we’d love to have the latest hybrid, it just doesn’t seem to be in the cards. So we’ve done the next best thing, we’ve found 5 sure fire ways to save at the pump.
Carpool
Why spend twice as much gas getting to the same location? Start carpooling with a coworker or neighbor, and you’ll see your gas bill drop in half. If you don’t know anyone nearby to ride with, you can find rides on carpooling websites like RideSearch.com.
Shop Around
Gas prices are different at nearly every location, so you never know where the cheapest gas can be found unless you do your research. Check websites like GasBuddy.com and download their phone app for when you’re on the go. You’ll be able to compare prices at your local stations and fill up where you find the best value.
Reduce Drag for an Easier Ride
How many times a week do you really use your bike rack? If it’s less than once a week, remove your rack between uses. Anything on the outside of your car will reduce the aerodynamics of your vehicle and affect your fuel efficiency. Remove unnecessary racks and roll up your windows to reduce extra drag.
Get the Junk out of your Trunk
Lots of people end up using their trunk for storage, but doing so can reduce fuel efficiency. The more weight in your trunk, the harder your engine has to work to move your car. According to the Energy Department, your fuel efficiency is reduced by 2% for every 100 pounds of extra weight in your car. (and that percentage is higher for smaller cars)
Get a Tune Up
Regular maintenance not only keeps your car in top running condition it also improves its fuel efficiency. Remember to fill your tires to the correct pressure, replace old air filters, and occasionally get a quick tune-up.
With a little savvy shopping and regular maintenance you’ll be surprised how much you can save. If your car needs a tune up bring it by Mt. Moriah Auto Sales, and our friendly service department staff will be happy to take care of it. When you’re ready to schedule an appointment call 901-368-5505 or use our easy online form.
